Happy Public Domain Day

January 1st is not only New Years day, it is also the day thousands of creative works loose their copyright protection. These works then enter the public domain on January 2. In 2022. thousands of compositions from 1926 entered the public domain. This means that you are as a composer or producer can recreate these compositions without having to request permission.

Additionally, thanks to the Music Modernization Act (MMA), all sound recordings prior to 1923 (estimated to be over 40,000) had their copyrights expire in the US on January 1, 2022. What does this mean to you? That you are now allowed to download, sample, reuse or remix any of these recordings without permission or payment.
